Benefits of Coconut


The real benefits of coconut are just being made more public. For a long time, coconut got a bad reputation due to its high saturated fat content. More recently, however, it has come to the forefront that coconut has many beneficial properties that are not only good nutritionally, but medicinally as well.

Coconut is made up of a unique type of fatty acid characterized as a medium chain triglyceride. Medium chain triglycerides do not raise blood cholesterol levels and do not contribute to heart disease.

Coconut is an effective anti-viral, antibacterial, and anti-fungal. It has been used to help people suffering from thyroid and metabolism issues and to lose weight. Additionally, it has been shown to help fight cancer.

There are several parts of the coconut that can be eaten. The inside of the coconut is filled with sterile coconut water that is high in fiber, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, proteins, and sugar. This water is an amazing source of electrolytes and is the perfect post workout drink when mixed with a protein source! Coconut meat comes from the fleshy part of the nut and can be eaten dried or fresh. Coconut milk is a liquid that can be squeezed from the meat. Coconut oil can be extracted from the nut and used in cooking and baking. Due to it’s recent popularity, coconut oil can now be found at your local produce or vitamin supplement store. Power Packed Protein Shake

This shake will restore glycogen storage and provide your body with amino acids to rebuild torn tissue.

Ingredients / serves 1

  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 8 oz. coconut water
  • 1 scoop protein powder (I like chocolate!)


  • Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until combined completely
